oh the weather outside is frightful..
ha yeah right! it's the first of december and it's 75 degrees outside! however, the christmas music that was playing at the grocery store today got me in the mood to make a winter favorite meal..chicken and rice soup and a bottle of martinelli's apple cider mmmmm:)
if you checked out the picture of our christmas tree in the last post, you may have noticed that i've have already begun wrapping gifts; i feel so ahead of the game right now, i typically procrastinate with things like that. now, my new love for 'pinterest' has me disputing over wrapping decor..naturally. here are some of the really cute ideas:
now i need to get my hands on the new michael buble and old mariah carey christmas albums so i can blast them while i'm cooking/baking, crafting, and cleaning..maybe Matt will sing along

a cute email i received today...
A Dog's Purpose (from a 6-year-old).
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker 's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ''I know why.''
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try to live.
He said,''People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?'' The Six-year-old continued,
'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.'
Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
-When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
-Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
-Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
-Take naps.
-Stretch before rising.
-Run, romp, and play daily.
-Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
-Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
-On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
-On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
-When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
-Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
-Be loyal.
-Never pretend to be something you're not.
-If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
-When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
-ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

muddy epic weekend
Tough Mudder was SO much fun! I know in my recent posts about it I sounded pretty terrified, and I was still nervous of how I was going to perform even the day of. Well we definitely had the best weather we could've ever hoped for and our groups spirits were high. With little time to stretch, we hollered the Tough Mudder chant along with the other runners getting ready to take off. The combination of steep hills, ICE filled mud baths with barbed wire overhead, and scaling 12-15ft. walls were the first of 29 obstacles that our team overcame. A few of my favorites were: 1.)Everest, where we had to run up a slippery quarter pipe and pull ourselves to the top. 2.)The Bog Jog, where we needed to take our shoes and socks off if you didn't want to lose them in this thick, clay-like sludge. 3.) I really did enjoy climbing the 'Berlin Walls'. That's when the entire team truly relied on each other to be able to finish the race. About five hours later...we all came face to face with the obstacle we had been dreading for 3 months..'Electric-shock Therapy'. At this point, it seemed that all of our "strategies" didn't even sound clever; so as we ran through one after the other, we were pleased to have made it to the finish line with only a few getting shocked..I guess they said it was more like a sting, so we worried ourselves over nothing. All in all I think it's the most fun I've ever had at run; the challenging obstacles, camaraderie, and the feeling of getting nice and dirty made it so sweet.

annnnddd Matt's Epic Birthday! The only way you will understand this is if you've seen the youtube channel 'Epic Meal Time' which can easily be know as one of Matt's favorites to keep up with on a weekly basis. We surprised him by recreating one of the videos. Had him wear his bacon strips shirt and aviators, while holding Jack Daniels and flipping a bacon weave for lunch. 56,390 calories later...happy birthday Matt

My Master Chef
Since getting married and moving in together, Matt and I made an agreement that if I cooked all the meals, he would do all the dishes and the cleaning afterwards. I thought it was an awesome idea since doing dishes is definitely not on the top of my 'favorite things to do' list. Well recently, I've been getting a little burnt out and felt that only about half of my meals have been successfully prepared. Matt's also a picky eater..and well, there's only so many meals I can come up with that don't include alot of veggies or any pasta. So Matt suggested we swap places for the week and I gratefully took him up on his offer. Having only seen him cook a few meals in the time that I've known him, I was a bit skeptical and wasn't sure what I was getting myself into.
It was such an awesome feeling getting to finally relax one evening without spending time in the kitchen right after work. As he rummaged through the fridge and googled a few things on the internet, I eyed quite a bit of meat laying out on the counter. Ha! This man loves meat! He got his inspiration from 'Epic Meal Time', a Youtube channel that involves a group of guys making grotesque meals of meat.
So the concoction that Matt baked up was chicken breasts that he butterflied and filled with ham and jalapeno jack cheese, seasoned with salt, pepper, basil and garlic. And I'll be honest with you, it was stinkin yummy! He also poured into a bowl some raspberry chipotle for a dipping sauce. He's good! I enjoyed doing the dishes after that!
He looked like he was having a good time, I had to take a picture. He took the other two shots..he was so proud:)

this and that
What a busy month up ahead:
1. six days until Tough Mudder..please pray that it doesn't rain, and isn't 1458 degrees outside! here's a look at the course we'll be running:
http://toughmudder.com/events/texas-central/texas-central-course-map-2011/
2. Matt's Birthday!!!
3. a trip to Phoenix for work
4...ok, so it seemed like there was alot before I started writing it out, but that is all.
Discussion of the day:
Fantasy Football is annoying the crap out of me! Yes, I understand that it's a fun 'guy bonding' thing, but can you just turn your phone off for 30 min. so we can get through grocery shopping! Seriously, we had little to no food in our pantry/fridge so I asked Matt to come to the store to help pick out a few things he'd want for the week. He asked if we could be done in 15 min. so that we could be back in time for a football game to start. Now I know how this fantasy football thing works; it lasts till Monday night, so why is it a big deal to watch every stinkin play! Someone really needs to explain this to me before I pop him up-side the head.
So, we're walking through the store, and what does he do the entire time...watch it on his phone! Doesn't offer to help push the cart even..so pitiful. Only a few more months

Making the Home a Little Homier
Lately we've been getting the house a bit more organized and comfortable so we can finally have some relaxation time. The room that is the most done in the house is our bedroom..we have a new set of furniture and I've been trying to decide what bedding to get, the color(s) we want the room, so on and so on. I came across this amazing comforter while I was shopping with my mom a while back and wrote down the brand to remember it. Well I just looked up the Bella Notte website and it's stunning..I love absolutely everything on it. Now if only I could afford it..yikes! Why do I have expensive taste??
this one's probably my favorite. it's so simple

blast from the past
When I was home visiting family last week, Matt, Amanda and I were in the car listening to the radio, and what came on....Enigma - Return to Innocence! Oh my gosh Amanda and I belted out singing as Matt sat quietly awkward in the back haha We've loved that song so much ever since we heard it on 'Man of the House', the awesome (now oldies) movie that starred Jonathan Taylor Thomas. We had never know the name of the song or the band that sang it, and thanks to new technology, Amanda looked it up and posted it to my facebook. Haha made my day! here it is..
Don't worry, I've already played it 7 times

wahoo wednesday
Zoey has been growing ummm way too fast..so today we got her a great new kennel that she can stay in for a while. She didn't take to it very well at first and ran to her puppy kennel, so Matt laid a trail of treats into the new kennel and wa-la! she fell for it..love those treats! such a little monster
I also did a little holiday shopping for the house. I'm so excited for the fall crafts that will be taking place this weekend:)

9/11
Today, we remember the tragic events that came to our doorstep 10 years ago. I hope you will pray for the souls that were lost and those who are fighting for us right now so that we may live in peace.

home sweet home
Just got back from Iowa's Hy-Vee Triathlon and it was awesome, but it feels so great to be home! Here's a little recap from last week....
Tuesdays workout with Kris was KILLER! We did our usual stretches and warm up, but hit the grind when we began the circuit training..whoooweee! We rotated out between 30 second intervals of push-ups, dead lifts, and kettle bell exercises. After finishing 3 rounds we moved onto a core workout on the yoga mats that felt so good, I was sore for an entire three days! We finished up the workout with a few sprints outside which Matt, Tory and I were completely exhausted by; however, I love the euphoric state at the end of it all. It's always rewarding:)
Thursday was mainly a day of packing and organizing for the trip to Iowa. Trying to find a place to board Zoey was tremendously difficult since she's only 2 and a half months old, so sweet sweet Tory kept an eye on her for us which we were so thankful for! Zoey has a great time at the Nolan house anyway since they have 3 dogs to keep her on her toes:) The three boys and I also have started a weekly photography competition. We are given a week to complete the challenge..and last week was to take (what I thought was supposed to be the cutest picture of Zoey) but the three boys said it needed to be the best picture of Zoey. Well, here are the entires...let us know which is your favorite!

and Joe's
Yes yes I know Joe's is a pretty amazing representation of Zoey, and Matt's photoshop skills stomp me every time, but just look how cuh-yute she is with that little tongue sticking out..what a sas! John wasn't quite ready for this first round of photos, so he judged; and the winner was JOE! :D I need to step up my game for the next one!
Friday morning we said goodbye to our little baby and left to Des Moines, Iowa for a Hy-Vee triathlon event. Our EONI(Earth's Own Natural Ingredients) line for Hill Country Bakery IS NOW in HEB and Sprouts in all of Texas. We're currently negotiating with Hy-Vee, a large grocery chain in the north, about getting EONI in their stores..our reason for being there. I've never been to Des Moines before so I was ready to explore. It was such a beautiful town! Full of art and cute shops, and just look at that capitol!
The area where the triathlon began was at a beautiful lake just off of the Raccoon River ::it is so green and lush::
Groups of people flocked our EONI booth to try the yummy samples and enjoyed receiving the free t-shirts and bracelets we had to offer. With all of the great feedback and complements, I sure hope they get ready for the big bang it's going to make in the north! ;)
