Grys Family

Last Friday, Matt, Joe, John and I had the greatest pleasure in being involved with a brand new foundation here in San Antonio. Project Angel Fares was formed in 2011 with the goal of "Providing Special Friends With Special Dreams". Project Angel Fares benefits Morgan's Wonderland, the world's first ultra-accessible family fun park, and was created to provide families outside San Antonio, the opportunity to visit Morgan's Wonderland. Project Angel Fares will pay for transportation, hotel, and some miscellaneous expenses so that our special friends can visit Morgan's Wonderland, A Place where Everyone Can Play!

Here is the story of the Project Angel Fares founder:
A couple of years ago, my wife and I were watching Extreme Makeover and were moved by a young boy by the name of Jake Grys. It wasn’t the fact that he had a brittle bone disease and will continue to break bones frequently, but rather it was his infectious smile. His attitude towards his disease was remarkable.

I was so moved that I knew I had to help. During this time, Morgan’s Wonderland was being built. I knew that residents of San Antonio and surrounding cities would be able to visit Morgan’s with no problems. But I wondered about those families who were out of state that may not have the means to travel to San Antonio. I had the privilege of meeting with Gordan Hartman at a fundraising event. I was able to talk to him about my idea and now this idea has become reality.

We here at Johnson Bros. have formed Project Angel Fares. Project Angel Fares was formed in 2011 with the goal of "Providing Special Friends With Special Dreams". Project Angel Fares benefits Morgan's Wonderland and was created to provide families outside San Antonio, the opportunity to visit Morgan's Wonderland. Project Angel Fares will pay for transportation, hotel, and some miscellaneous expenses so that our very special friends can visit Morgan's Wonderland, A Place where Everybody Can Play!

So the excited Grys family came to San Antonio, TX to be the first Project Angel Fares recipients. We joined them in their new experience as they played together and were all able to ride the carousel, train, and jeep cars that were wheelchair accessible. Jake was such a joy, with a powerful personality and contagious smile. Definitely a great role model for anyone.

Rainy Day

It finally rained! Thank you Lord! Our front and back yards have gotten so dry I didn't think our grass would survive; but after the great rain, I think we have some hope.:)

I love days like this because I'm able to sit down and have time to research things that I'm interested in. Subject of the day: Tough Mudder! Matt, Joe, John and I have signed up, along with 7 other crazies to run the Tough Mudder this October in Paige, TX. TM is not your average lame mud run or spirit-crushing endurance road race, it's Ironman meets Burning Man. It's a 7-12 mile race of obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. TM has also raised over one million dollars for the Wounded Warrior Project, an awesome group that helps severely injured service men and women.
Everyone knows that I don't have just one sweet tooth, I'm pretty sure all of the teeth in my head are sweet; soooo I have a very difficult time saying no to ice cream, chocolate and any other wonderfully yummy indulgence. Although this is a large obstacle for eating healthy, Matt has been such a help for getting me into shape. We both have a membership at Anytime Fitness close to home, so we've tried to keep a constant schedule in lifting weights, running and working towards our goal. It's a good feeling to have a partner who pushes and encourages you throughout a workout. I definitely wouldn't get very much accomplished if he weren't there :) I tend to talk myself out of things...like working out! We also have a pool and tennis court in our neighborhood, so the four of us have been heading over there everyday to get some good cross training in.

Making Our House a Home

Matt and I purchased our first house together back in March and decided we wanted to fix up a few things on the inside before completely settling in. Between getting married, starting a new job, and taking care of everyday tasks, things got difficult to juggle and we knew it would take time. The carpet floors were a DISASTER with stains all over and parts of it shredding...so it had to go! The kitchen was obviously in the middle of being redone by the previous owner with the wooden floors all sanded down and the cabinets with a messy stain job. So he and I decided to tear up all of the flooring downstairs by ourselves, and boy was that fun! Ha! Matt's uncle David was at the time remodeling his house, so he was kind enough to help by showing us around a few places to look at flooring. After days of going back and forth about laying tile or wood, we decided dark wood would be the best choice. And we love it!!! Curtains too! We were tired of seeing our neighbors alllll the time. We still have quite a bit of work to do on the kitchen, so I'll post those pics later :)
